    1914

    Completion of the hospital design

    In 1914, Wrocław architects Franz Overkott and Otto Föhre completed the design of the hospital for the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Elizabeth. The design envisioned a construction of a modern and functional medical facility living up to contemporary standards.

    Construction halted

    On July 28, 1914, the day after the design was completed, World War I broke out. As a result of the wartime chaos and lack of funds, the plans to build the hospital were immediately put on hold.

    1920

    Return to the project

    At the end of the 1920s, the Congregation decided to revive the idea of building a hospital, and a new project was developed by architect Paul Fischer.

    1927

    Laying of the cornerstone

    On October 27, 1927, the cornerstone for the hospital was ceremoniously laid. This event marked the beginning of the grand project to build a new medical facility.

    1929

    Opening of the hospital

    In 1929, construction was completed and the hospital called St. Elisabeth Krankenhaus was opened in Świdnica. The new facility offered 140 beds and a high level of medical care.

    1939

    Military hospital

    During World War II (1939–1945), the hospital was converted into a military facility where Sisters of St. Elizabeth tended to wounded soldiers.

    1945

    New management

    After the end of World War II, the hospital was managed by Dr. Beneszek, who also served as a community custodian of historical monuments. The hospital continued its medical activities as a public healthcare facility.

    2009

    Closure of the hospital

    In 2009, the hospital ceased operations. The last wards were transferred to the Latawiec Regional Specialist Hospital, which marked the end of an era in Świdnica’s healthcare history.

    2010

    Adaptation attempts

    After the hospital closed, the idea of transforming the facility into a retirement home soon emerged. The project, however, was never implemented, and the building remained unused.

    2011

    Building reclaimed by the Sisters of St. Elizabeth

    In 2011, the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Elizabeth regained ownership of the building. Despite this, no effective redevelopment measures were undertaken.

    2017

    Fire and deterioration of the building

    In 2017, a fire broke out in the attic, which seriously deteriorated the technical condition of the building. Soon after the fire, the building became a place of residence for homeless people and was exposed to acts of vandalism.

    2019

    Sale of the building to an investor

    In 2019, the building was sold to a private investor who announced plans to revitalize the facility and convert it into apartments. However, no renovation nor construction works were initiated.

    2023

    New opening: Gradi Invest

    In 2023, the plot of land with the historic hospital became the property of Wrocław-based premium real estate developer Gradi Invest, which promptly began adapting the design and preparing the site for construction.

    2024

    Start of revitalization

    In 2024, the renovation of the former hospital began. Together with the newly constructed buildings, it is being transformed into “Apartamenty Central Park Świdnica” residential real estate. Historical details such as original tiles, porticos, elements of the chapel’s infrastructure, medieval building lines, and monumental trees have been carefully preserved and integrated.
